All about GST on ZALORA
These are a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) for your reference which does not constitute legal advice. For more detailed reference please refer to the RMCD GST site.

1) What is Goods and Services Tax (‘GST’)?
GST is also known in countries as VAT (Value added Tax). Any supply of taxable goods or services provided domestically (in Malaysia) by a registered GST entity is subject to GST.

2) Is ZALORA a registered GST entity?
Yes, our registration number is 000057286656

3) What happens to the GST paid to ZALORA?
We submit all GST collected to the Customs Department of Malaysia.

4) Are all goods on ZALORA taxable?
For our Valued Malaysian Customers- all our items on ZALORA are standard rated (6%) except for the situations mentioned in no. 5,6,7,8.
For our valued Brunei Customers- since the supply of goods is overseas, not a domestic supply, you will not be subject to GST.

5) Do the prices on our website already include GST?
For our valued Malaysian customers, no worries, all prices displayed already include GST. So you will not receive any extra hidden costs in your bill!
Shipping fee is also inclusive for GST. For example an RM5 shipping fee comprises of RM 4.72 for shipping and RM 0.28 for tax .

6) I would like my order to be sent to Labuan, Langkawi, Island of Tioman- must I pay GST?
Sale of goods to the designated areas of Labuan, Langkawi and Island of Tioman are zero rated (0%). However supply of services to these areas are subject to 6%. This means you do not pay tax for the purchase item. You will only pay tax for any shipping fee incurred (i.e- when your order is below RM75). As mentioned, all shipping fees displayed are already inclusive of GST.

7) I would like to buy a gift card, is this taxable?
Gift cards are not subject to GST. For example if you buy a gift voucher worth RM200, you will only pay RM200.

8) I purchase items regularly from ZALORA MARKETPLACE. The receipt I receive does not always have 6% tax charged. Why is this?
MARKETPLACE is a platform for local sellers to sell their products. If the seller is GST registered, the item you purchased from that seller is inclusive of 6% tax. If your seller is not GST registered, the item you purchased is tax free!

9) I just received my order and received a piece of paper called ‘tax invoice’. What do I with this tax invoice?
We are required to rename our receipts as ‘tax invoice’. As a consumer, it is just like any other receipt.

10) I returned an item. I received an email from ZALORA informing me my refund was successful. The email attached a ‘credit note’. What is this credit note?
We are required to issue a ‘credit note’ for every returned item. The document will inform you we have refunded the item and the tax paid to you.

WHAT IS GST IN MALAYSIA?

Everyone must be asking and actually wondering what is GST? Goods and services tax (GST) or also known as VAT is a multi-stage consumption of tax. As announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak, the implementation of GST in Malaysia will be effective on the 1st of April 2015. Businesses and consumers have been questioning on what is GST Malaysia and how it affects them this past year. After the announcement on 25th October 2013 for the GST implementation, the registration for businesses to register GST online started on October 2014 in order to allow businesses to make complete preparations.

The way GST Malaysia 2015 works in registered business is that it charges a 6% GST on their products on services. The existence of GST tax Malaysia is to replace the existing sales tax which has a lot of weaknesses resulting in government losing its revenue. By introducing goods and services tax Malaysia, those weaknesses could be overcome and increase the country’s economy. However, the Malaysia GST 2015 implementation will not bring a huge impact on the prices of goods. For this month, ZALORA is offering discount with the introduction of voucher code GSTDROP and as promised we will always price our fashion products competitively just to encourage shoppers to keep their lifestyle and shopping habits as they did before the introduction of GST.
