Why do we celebrate International Coffee Day?
There’s a lot more behind your morning brew than the barista who made it. In 2014, members of the International Coffee Organization chose October 1 as a shared date to celebrate coffee, and the first official International Coffee Day took place in 2015. It’s a chance to appreciate your favorite cup while recognizing the farmers who grow the coffee and the people who process, roast, and serve it.
Here’s a fun fact to share over your next coffee date: coffee “beans” aren’t beans at all. They’re seeds found inside a fruit called a coffee cherry, usually two seeds per cherry. Those seeds are processed and roasted before they become the coffee you drink.
